Review: I picked up this bottle of John Emerald Alabama Single Malt Whiskey while on a trip to Opelika Alabama. Sadly I picked it up form a liquor store and did not have time to swing by the distillery that was in town. This whiskey is unique in that the malted barley is smoked with peach and pecan wood which imparts a subtle but sweet smoke flavor. Its malt characteristics come in on the mid palate and the sweet finish lingers despite its lower proof point. If you are a fan of single malts or “smoky” whiskies this may be worth trying. The smoke is not overpowering to me but I do tend to prefer heavy smoke. Cheers!

My Rating: Sip it!

Ratings Scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
