Review: I picked up this bottle of Rye Mash Whiskey (not realizing it wasn’t a legal Rye Whiskey) at a distillery event at Ewing Young in Newberg Oregon. The whiskey seemed bright but with the right amount of spice and a decent proof point. Because the whiskey is aged in used bourbon barrels it can not legally be called a Rye Whiskey. Because of the used barrels the oak impact is much more subtle and the color is much lighter. To me this makes it a great comparison to many of the more traditional 95/5 Ryes on the market and that is why it deserves a spot on your bar, if you can ever find a bottle. Cheers!
My Rating:
Ratings Scale: Stock it!
-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?
-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk
-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.
-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
