Taste: Fantastic brown gravy with lots of black pepper and ground beef pieces.

Texture: Everything rehydrated nicely but the ground beef pieces were a bit small.

Overall Score: 4.8 out of 5

Notes: After seeing this meal previewed on Backcountry Exposure, I knew I had to try it out. I picked up the sample pack of the 4 available meals and this was the first one to make it out on trail. I loved that it wasn’t the traditional “Oatmeal” or “Denver Scramble” option put out by nearly every other outdoor food maker.
I was a bit unsure of how well Loco Moco would translate to a breakfast, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. The gravy is savory and rich with black pepper, almost to the point of being spicy. The eggs and beef pieces rehydrated nicely and it did not take much time (less than 10 minutes) nor much water (only 1 cup) to come to life. I appreciate an easy breakfast that packs a decent amount of calories without hitting my gut like a brick (looking at you Mountain House Biscuits and Gravy). I look forward to trying the 3 other options and will be placing an order for more Loco Moco Brunch Skillet for my upcoming adventures. Cheers!

May the miles you hike be filled with wonder and the glasses you raise be filled with whiskey. Cheers!
