Review: I have been a long time fan of the whiskies coming out of McMenamins in Oregon. Their Hogshead Single Malt was one of the first craft whiskies I ever tried and they continue to try unique styles and blends. When I received an email from their whiskey club saying a limited amount of 14 year old oat whiskies were coming soon, I jumped at the chance to purchase a bottle. The whiskey inside is sweet and approachable without the oat funk I have found in other oat whiskies. The maple syrup cask lends a well balanced sweetness that makes this the perfect whiskey to drink for breakfast. Remember, you can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning. Cheers!

My Rating: Sip it if you want a breakfast whiskey!

Ratings Scale:

-Spit: Don’t bother with this one. If a friend gives you a dram of it, are they even your friend?

-Shoot: Good enough to get you drunk

-Sip: Tasty enough to enjoy neat or on the rocks.

-Stock: I’d recommend keeping a bottle on hand.
