-Review: I have camped at Mirror Lake a few times in the past but it had always been in the snow and I wanted a chance to see Mt Hood’s reflection in Mirror lake so myself and a friend decided on a short overnight in June. The plan was to hike to the camps next to Mirror Lake, set up camp then hike up to Tom, Dick and Harry Mountain for some views. The weather called for intermittent rain so we were happy to be able to set up camp while it was not draining. The first 2 miles to Mirror Lake are fairly easy with about 500 of elevation over the second mile. We grabbed our, now lighter, packs and headed up to Tom, Dick and Harry after we enjoyed a warm lunch. The hike up the mountain was fairly constant in elevation gain and the final half mile caused us to pause and catch our breath a few times. The rocky ridge of Tom, Dick and Harry took a little time to traverse due to the large rocks in sections and I imagine there would have been some incredible views had it not been fogged in. I guess we will have to come back for a day hike on a clear day. The return down the mountain was very easy as it was all down hill. Since the weather was dry at the moment we returned to Mirror Lake we decided to complete the Lake Loop trail before returning to camp to make dinner and then enjoy the rain, hail and snow from the comforts of our tent.
In the morning we were able to pack up our gear during a break in the rain and were lucky enough to see spots of blue sky while we hiked the short 2 miles back to the trailhead. The camping spots are up 2 different sets of steps and most had fire pits which can be used when there is no fire ban. I did see TP flowers everywhere so please follow proper LNT. This is a trail we will be back to. Cheers!
-Rating: Bring a friend
Rating Guide:
-Gram it: Check out the pictures on Instagram because this one is not worth seeing in person
-Hike it: It’s short and sweet. Might as well knock it out in a day
-Bag it: Pack a bag and spend the night
-Bring a friend: Easy enough to bring a friend. Maybe this is where you can introduce someone to backpacking.
-Come Back: I will keep doing this trip it’s so good.
