-Review: The Salmon-Morgan Creek Natural Area is nestled in-between the outskirts of Vancouver Washington and Battle Ground. There are two trail heads, one on the Fir Loop side, which is how we hiked it, and one on the Alder Loop side. Both trailheads are nestled in a neighborhood so please park responsibly.
We hiked both loops counter clockwise from the Fir Loop Trailhead. The trail features large fir trees with lush clover and ferns. The trail quickly comes within sight of Morgan Creek with short offshoot trails that can lead to water access. There are a handful of connecting trails, especially on the north sections of the trail. I referenced our All Trails map frequently and did follow a large trail along the Salmon Creek portion that was not technically part of the loops trail. The Alder Loop section is often muddier than the Fir Loop section and I noticed more mountain bike tracks. The forrest in this section is dense with small alder trees and offers a very different experience while hiking. The elevation is very minimal and the ability to connect multiple trails would allow you to increase you milage as desired. If you live in the area this is a great place to get away and enjoy a little nature. Cheers!
-Rating: Come back!
Rating Guide:
-Gram it: Check out the pictures on Instagram because this one is not worth seeing in person
-Hike it: It’s short and sweet. Might as well knock it out in a day
-Bag it: Pack a bag and spend the night
-Bring a friend: Easy enough to bring a friend. Maybe this is where you can introduce someone to backpacking.
-Come Back: I will keep doing this trip it’s so good.
