-Review: Hess lake and Spearfish lake are both short and easy hikes located just across the Columbia River from The Dalles Oregon. These two hikes are more of a get out and stretch your legs situation rather than any kind of physical challenge. Both have pit toilets at or near the trail heads and neither require a parking permit. Both offer nice views of the Columbia River, The Dalles Dam and if clouds permit, Mt. Hood. Hess lake has a few trails that total around 2 miles if you hike them all but the trail around the lake itself is less than .75 miles. Spearfish lake is a much larger lake and has a 2 mile loop around it with a few trail options to either go slightly above the lake or down near its shore. Both are pet and family friendly so long as you keep them close as there are critters like lizards, snakes and coyotes out there. Cheers!
-Rating:
Rating Guide: Hike it!
-Gram it: Check out the pictures on Instagram because this one is not worth seeing in person
-Hike it: It’s short and sweet. Might as well knock it out in a day
-Bag it: Pack a bag and spend the night
-Bring a friend: Easy enough to bring a friend. Maybe this is where you can introduce someone to backpacking.
-Come Back: I will keep doing this trip it’s so good.
